Education
Education is one of the main aims of the Marine Reserve. A large proportion of the Marine Ranger’s time is spent carrying out a wide range of educational activities, encompassing both formal and informal education, and the full spectrum of ages from pre-school upwards.
Formal Education
The Marine Ranger is available to give talks & lead activities both on and off site for all age groups from nursery to further education. There is also the possibility of combining a visit to the VMR with a visit to the breeding seabird colony at St Abb’s Head where the National Nature Reserve Ranger can lead seabird activities. Contact us for more information and to book in advance.
Teaching Packs
The Marine Reserve also has produced curriculum linked teaching packs for primary schools levels B/C and C/D, PDFs of which are downloadable here.

The Shore Thing
This is a National project aimed at involving high school students and voluntary groups in collecting data on climate change and non-native species around our coastline. The Marine Ranger is trained to assist groups in carrying out Shore Thing surveys within the Marine Reserve and on beaches in the surrounding area.
Activities
Between April and September the Marine Ranger leads a series of events at the Reserve, and takes the Mobile Marine Experience trailer, packed with information and activities, out and about.
